With an ongoing commitment to staff training and continuing professional development, HIFraser is well prepared to support Australia’s upcoming Future Submarine project. During the first week of April, HIFraser sent 3 of its engineers to Canberra to undertake the Submarine Design and Engineering Course run by BMT Design & Technology. Certified by The Royal Institution of Naval Architects, the 5 day course covers a diverse range of topics focused on conventional submarine technology.
HIFraser Engineers gained experience and broadened their capability in a number of submarine systems including:
- Weapon Systems;
- Propulsion Systems;
- Habitability Systems;
- Hydrostatics and Hydrodynamics; and
- Signature Management.
The course concluded with the participants forming teams to investigate different submarine designs, and their effectiveness in performing specific missions similar to those expected of Australia’s Future Submarine. This task was designed to illustrate the effects of changing different critical features, and as some groups learnt, these could have significant consequences.
At the conclusion of the course the participants agreed the week had been hugely successful and an enjoyable learning experience. With an ongoing commitment to staff training and continuing professional development, HIFraser is well prepared to support Australia’s upcoming Future Submarine project.
